RITIFI White Paper: Recommendations to strengthen Europe’s RTI ecosystem

Research Infrastructures (RIs) and Technology Infrastructures (TIs) are both essential and complementary elements for functional and efficient Research, Development and Innovation ecosystems in Europe.  RIs drive scientific excellence, while TIs support taking innovation closer to market. Yet challenges remain, including limited policy recognition of TIs, fragmented governance, barriers to collaborations, suboptimal access frameworks and funding gaps across the infrastructure lifecycle.
By the end of November, the EU-funded RITIFI consortium delivered the D4.4 White Paper, which focuses on the project’s key findings and recommendations on how Europe can build a more coherent, coordinated, and impactful landscape for TIs and RI‑TI collaborations.
The RITIFI White Paper findings are based on 18 case studies, stakeholder consultations, and policy analyses across 19 countries and 5 strategic sectors: biomedical, hydrogen, circular materials economy, accelerators and superconducting magnets and microelectronics.
By strengthening Research and Technology Infrastructures ecosystem access for industrial users, a dedicated TI coordination and governance, strategic planning and RI-TI collaboration, RITIFI’s White Paper supports Europe in remaining a leader in scientific excellence and strengthening Europe’s global competitiveness.
